Double standards? What does that mean? Does that mean that we can execute their people that surrender. Put a bullet in their forehead? Starve them? Beat them? Rape them? Those are the standards they have set.

We feed them, clothe them, get them medical attention, we take better care of Saddam’s troops them Saddam himself does.

Ofcourse not.. but I suspect you know that.

But it does mean that when you point the finger at other people it may be good to have some integrity about your own actions.

What do you think about the situation in Cuba?

There was that small incident in Afganistan were, under US supervision, taliban POWs were locked in containers in the desert sun for 3 days without food or wate. When they bashed on the walls the walls were machine gunned. yeah so much for the humane americans.

You know if that is true, we made a mistake. We would be the first top admit it. Tragic if it truly happened and we could have prevented it. America is not some evil thing. America is America. The people are what it truly is. We are trying to help the world and not just let it rot away in evilness.
I have to ask you Chris, what did you do for humankind today?
By the way great site you have!

I dont think America is evil. But that does not mean that America has done some evil things. The test of America (and all nations and people) is whether they can recognise that they too have a responsibility to uphold the ideals of what they proclaim for their enemies as well as themselves.

I was not suggesting that America did it but I suspect they did “turn a blind eye”. My main point in this is that abuses happen in war and it is part of the job of the propaganda machine to ensure that the oppositions atrocities are highlighted and ours diminished. When people are placed in extreme circumstances they do things that seem atrocious to us but we do not know that we would not do something similar in similar circumstances.

Place yourself in the shoes of an Iraqi soldier who has been taught to believe that the west is evil and salvation lies in dying for Islam. If you have enough courage to put aside your own beliefs and prejudices and take his perspective briefly you may find that you gain an interesting insight.

Here is an interesting link if you wish to understand more about how atrocities in war happen http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milgram_experiment

Ooops - just re-read my post. One of the lines should read “But that does not mean that America HASN’T done some evil things.”
