great chiefs in council
The leadership team for the three congregations which we have at Northern which involve worship in a “gen X” style is called the council of great chiefs. And this weekend, the great chiefs are in council. Or at least on a retreat.
So we won’t be posting on the weekend, but here’s some of the plans for what we will be doing:
- Stories from around the globe
- Big dreaming/brainstorming
- Feedback from congregations - summary of issues
- Planning/positioning of congregations, locations, leadership
- stewardship issues
- mentoring/accountability groups
- what the other congregations are doing
Throw in some prayer, reflections, worship, training, a marathon of classic 80s movies and a riveting game of trivial pursuit, and we are going to have a jam-packed weekend.
One of the things about the multi-congregational model is that it is very flexible. We could easily go away tonight and come back having decided to radically change the leadership structure, the location, timing or positioning of our congregations. Our ultimate aim is to use our resources most effectively and in a way which will connect with different people and create genuine community.
In that way, there is an excitement about this type of retreat that I never had when I was involved in traditional worship. We are going away to plan, cast visions and so on, knowing that nothing is off limits - as far as possible we try to have no sacred cows. Now we don’t make those kind of decisions lightly, but it does make it kind of fun.

I echo “Hammo” from way out West…a question though…”are you intentional about ensuring there’s a level of interaction between congregations…or isn’t it an issue…something to put on our meal discussion later in the year

Thanks Guys for your comments.
Paul, you are right, we are very intentional about creating cross congregation interaction. We can discuss further over a meal
But if I get timen and other people are interested I can do a post over the next few days.
