defining the emerging church

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003

I was wondering the other day about how we would define the phrase ‘Emerging Church’. What do you think?
We bander about words like post-modern, alt worship, gen-x, alternative and we use places like cafe’s, homes, pubs. But what is it that defines us? How do you explain to someone what you are involved in?

Christian Book Summaries

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003

Well, I know I am probably slow. On second thoughts don’t answer that! But, has anyone seen this site that provides Christian Book Summaries?
As I am a bit of a book snob, I believe that you should read a whole book. It just seems to me that it is sort of cheating to read books […]

notes for an essay

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003

Okay, it appears that our blog has come under scrutiny from some year 10 students who are required to write an essay on “Is Australia an Egalitarian Society”. Their diligent internet searching has brought them to this entry.

poor fellow my church

Monday, July 21st, 2003

Today I read with interest an article by Gordon Moyes on the recent Uniting Church Assembly. Some of the points that he made bear closer consideration:

Churches by their nature require an ethos that includes tradition and culture, mystery and authority. Reject the bishops and abandon the Bible and all that replaces them are mates […]

uniting church priests?

Thursday, July 17th, 2003

Hot off the press, this article from today’s paper entitled “Church votes to allow gay priests“. Turns out they are reporting about developments in the Uniting Church of Australia, which refers to their clergy as “ministers”. You can find some background on the debate here.
I bet some of the Anglican and Catholic leadership […]
