Information Overload
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth… well, actually what I would like is a good program to organise me. I don’t want a pim (personal information manager) necessarily, but I do want something that will keep track of the different projects I work on. You know keep all those bits of information together in one place - web site addresses, contact details, ideas, notes etc. Oh, and I want to be able to capture thoughts easily from the net - even if I am not sure what I exactly want to do with the info at this time. Is this too much to ask?
I have tried a few programs and the front runners seem to be infoselect and zoot. Infoselect seems to have all I want. But it seriously needs an update to its user interface. I mean, if I am going to invest my life in a program, I want it to look cool. As for Zoot, well, I think it is a very good program, I just can’t seem to work out how to use it. Someone needs to write some good documentation for this one!
So, what do you use to organise yourself and protect against information overload? —- End of geeky rant!

A combination of applications works for me. Outlook suffices for keeping contact info, which I then synchronize onto an iPAQ PocketPC. I also synchronize that at work with Lotus Notes using XTNDConnect PC as the translator between Notes and ActiveSync.
As for collecting website info as well as filing away items you may scan, consider PaperPort. One neat feature is that it allows you to click on a button in the system tray to scan the content of a web page quickly and directly into the application. Or, you can “print” the website to a PaperPort virtual printer and accomplish the same thing. NOTE: LOTS of MB associated with this, but if you have a large hard drive, storage is cheap these days.

I use this funny paper thing, it is called a diary. You should try it Phil, it works really well and when you drop it it doesn’t loose its memory.

The best combination I’ve found so far is a Palm-powered organizer with Outlook. It works really well.
