John Gibson screams
I have just watched John Gibson on Fox News “interview” a Canadian Senator.
Is it just me or do people think that it is inappropriate for a Fox News reporter to be yelling at a Canadian elected Senator? Is it right for Gibson to be shouting over the top of the Senator talking and basically treating him with no respect as an elected leader of another country, let alone a human being.
I sat there wondering what the reaction would be if an American Senator had the same treatment by a Canadian TV Show host. I also pondered what this says to people who also watch the show (including children) about how you discuss an issue and treat someone who has a different opinion to you.
I know I could stop watching Fox News, as Dan keeps telling me to. But, I have this morbid facination in watching them, and I think it gives me some insight into some Americans and their perspective on life and the world.
Update: Alan informs me that Canadian Senators are not elected but appointed for life. But as he says, my point still remains.

I take your point, but Canadian senators are appointed for life, not elected.

That means that us Canadians can scream at them… but not some dude from Fox.

All of our Senators are appointed by the Prime Minister as patronage appointments. Your qualifications are that you gave a lot of money to the Liberal or Conservative party or you were college buddies with the PM.
Not only do they collect an ENOURMOUS salary but most do very little to earn what they make. I can’t feel that sorry for the Senator, John Gibson was probably yelling to see if the Senator was awake. (I am kidding)

It is interesting these differences between countries. For instance, in Australia the Liberal government is the conservative party. But of course we are upside down, down here

Our senate was the first elected upper house in the world. sobbing faintly Once upon a time our constitution was the most democratic in the world. Times change.
