The elements are used the next day (Good Friday) and completely consumed so that until the Easter Vigil there is no reserved sacrament. So it isn't only RCs who do the vigil and altar of repose -- Episocopalians do it too! :) Our parish does the Maundy Thursday vigil overnight in the chapel where we place the consecrated elements on the altar of repose.
