stories of involvement in nccc - Emma

1. Do you enjoy working in the Op Shop?
Yes, I enjoy working in the Op Shop because you meet people from all walks of life, and it’s just so interesting.

2. Has this job helped you?
This job has helped me because I want to work in Retail, and in order to get a job in a Retail position you need experience. So therefore I am getting all my training here and lots of hands on experience to prepare myself in the real world (however, this is like a real job for me).
• Other ways this job has helped me is that it gets me out of the house.
• You are working with and meeting different people all the time.
• This job gives me motivation, self esteem, and so much confidence in myself.
3. What does being involved in our CareWorks program, by working in the shop, mean for you?
Working in the shop and what it means to me is that I have obtained many new skills that I would need in a Retail position for example:
• Dealing with people from the community, has improved my customer service skills,
• I now know how to use a cash register,
• I have learnt money handling skills,
• Get to know the customer’s needs and on a personal level as well,
• And most of all I know how to sell
• Have co-ordinator’s skills
Working in the Op Shop gives me real hope that someone like the Northern Community Church of Christ gives you a chance to learn, succeed and move forward in life to where we need to go.
Most of all it gives me satisfaction that I have a place to go, and to better myself and to be happy. It beats staying at home and being depressed.
