forge - shaping of things to come #2
Alan Hirsch
The traditional model of church – means that the church is dependent on the minister. Imagine if you don’t preach one day?? What would the reaction be from people who are conditioned to expect a sermon – to be fed? Ministers also like this dependency. Their ego’s and roles are built around this.
Jesus didn’t operate like this.. he told parables – invited people to fill the blanks themselves. Yet, so much of what we have built in Christendom is designed around this dependency. This doesn’t mean that God doesn’t work in it.. God has and is. But, we need new structures to move into the new context.
There are a few Churches who will do the model of Christendom really well. But, this model will probably only reach 15% of Australians. When other churches try singing hillsongs or doing seeker service they are not only trying to reach the same 15% as every other church but they are also very dagy as they do it badly.

i hear what you are saying about the dependency model of church. you could bring a start to the dependency on the catholic church leaving the bible only to be read by the ordained. but, doesn’t this model still speak to masses who are “modern” in thought? is there a suggestion to moving people to a churches into this model?
