Okay, I couldn’t resist this article about a poll of AFL followers. Among some of the more interesting results are those that compare particular team supporters with the results from all AFL supporters:

  • Crows supporters are 42% more likely to have eaten Hungry Jacks in the last four weeks and 30% more likely to have purchased clothing at Big W in the last four weeks
  • Lions supporters are (unsurprisingly) 74% more likely to have been to a theme park in the last four weeks and 34% more likely to have purchased something from a telephone sales officer in the last four weeks
  • Blues supporters are 32% more likely to be a semi-skilled worker and 42% more likely to have been to the Casino in the last four weeks
  • Collingwood supporters are 20% more likely to go online to chat and 71% more likely to mainly shop at an IGA supermarket
  • Bombers supporters are 17% more likely to wear clothing that will get them noticed and 18% more likely to prefer pre-mixed drinks than spirits in a glass
  • Dockers supporters are 26% more likely to avoid dairy where possible and 18% more likely to believe it is important to look fashionable
  • Cats supporters are 63% more likely to have been to a historical house or building which is open to the public and 39% more likely to regularly go to church or a place of worship
  • Hawks supporters are 24% more likely to consider doing some of their grocery shopping online in the next 12 months and 23% more likely to have been to the live theatre in the last four weeks
  • Kangaroos supporters are 23% more likely to have purchased fresh flowers in the last four weeks and 18% more likely to believe they were born to shop
  • Demons supporters are 25% more likely to be more interested in their job than their house and 21% more likely to have used a poker machine in the last four weeks
  • Power supporters are 30% more likely to have played video games at home in the last three months and 50% more likely to have eaten food from Pizza Hut in the last four weeks
  • Tigers supporters are 27% more likely to enter competitions which are on packets or labels on products and 13% more likely to have played pool or billiards in the last three months
  • St Kilda supporters are 18% more likely to be women and 17% more likely to believe that a percentage of everyone’s income should go to charities
  • Swans supporters are 26% more likely to have an income of $70,000 or more and 14% more likely to believe that beer is a good way to start the night
  • West Coast supporters are 15% more likely to prefer cleaning to cooking and 12% more likely to have bought a lottery/scratch ticket in the last three months
  • Bulldogs supporters are 20% more likely to be concerned about their cholesterol level and 18% more likely to think that TV advertising gives them something to talk about.

I haven’t quoted all of the findings and some of them are quite bizarre.

You missed the one that West Coast supporters are 97% more likely to have witnessed their team win in the past week. :)

Geelong supporters are a church going mob, that works with me. House or historical building that’s open to the general public…that’s sounding a lot like an art gallary (arrgh)
