At my previous church I used to hold the position (unofficial) of the “head catcher.” You’d ‘sift’ up behind someone at an alter call if you had an inkling that the Preacher would be preying for that person and you’d wait to see if they were a dropper or not. (You usually knew who the droppers were.)

I’m always amused at the styles of “Praying” the preachers have. Some sneak up on you while you have your eyes closed and thrust their outstretched hand into your abdomen, some place their hands on the sides of your head and rock you backwards and forward, (this really throws your balance off!). At one popular youth conference in Christchurch, the head speaker got a young man up onto the stage to pray, after a while, and no success at “felling” him as he just kept backing up when he was pushed, he puts his foot in-behind the young guys leg, gives him a shove and sends him on his way… By the power of the Holy Spirit… of course.

As an ex-catcher I got to see and hear heaps of stories.

People have tried to push me over before, I don't fall down very easily :)

I had a friend put an evangelist in cuffs and was waiting for the police, and was going to charge him with assault after he practically slapped his wife in the forehead. The pastors talked him out of it, I wish they hadn't.

The funny thing is they act like you are rebellious or sinful for not falling for their huckstery. I believe in the power of God, and sometimes things like that happen. But it isn't some disgusting display of entertainment.

I was talking to my housemate about it at lunch time, and she said that he put his hands on her neck (?!) and tried to push her over as well, but she didn't let him because she felt she needed to resist.
