Bible not all gospel, Catholics warned
The Australian newspaper had this article in it last week. A reader of signposts emailed it to me.
“THE hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true.
The Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland are warning their 5 million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of scripture, that they should not expect “total accuracy” from the Bible.
“We should not expect to find in scripture full scientific accuracy or complete historical precision,” they say in “The Gift of Scripture”. The document is timely, coming as it does amid the rise of the religious Right, in particular in the US.
Some Christians want a literal interpretation of the story of creation, as told in Genesis, taught alongside Darwin’s theory of evolution in schools, believing “intelligent design” to be an equally plausible theory of how the world began. “

What surprises me is this is that Christians need to be “warned” of this. I know we have talked before about this on signposts but it still surprises me that if people actually read the bible that they would not see this for themselves.

You know, Lance, you really don’t have anything, do you. After looking at the argument, it seems that you have a questionable attack, a poorly presented train of thought that doesn’t really lead anywhere.
So Leigh shouldn’t be in youth ministry because of what, exactly? Because he listens to non-Christian music?
Because he knows Homer? (fair enough on that point, I guess, but still… (just kidding Homer))
Because he is willing to demonstrate his viewpoint publically regarding the war?
Or is it that he has previously been involved in what you see as questionable activities?
Sorry, I just really don’t see a point here in your argument that successfully conveys why Leigh shouldn’t be in ministry. Indeed, without meeting the man, you can not know the suitability of someone for ministy. I do know him, and my simple sticking up for him should indicate my view on the matter.

Lance,
you do have a huge omelete on you.
The reason being you do not do research well.
Learn it.

Well Leigh, whoever you are, for a Chritian to advertise this quote as his personal motto is a bit of a worry to me.
“You say that you’re the victim, I say you’re full of shit.”

I have to admit - that is a rather bizzar quote.

Interesting site Leigh, I would like to know how you would teach the Kids club on the topics:
“Blessed are the Peacemakers”
“Turn the other Cheek”
“He who lives by the sword, dies by the sword”

Here’s an interesting remark by George Pell ..that seemed to slip through the net earlier in the year.
It was in an interview with George Negus on SBS, in the days after the death of Pope John Paul II, as the cardinals met in Rome to choose a successor.
“GEORGE NEGUS: Cardinal, I don’t mean this in a facetious or a sacrilegious way, but how does the Holy Spirit guide people like yourself in the conclave when there has to be politics involved, there has to be ideology involved, there has to be numbers involved, is the Holy Spirit a good political numbers man?
CARDINAL GEORGE PELL: No, sometimes He gets it right, sometimes He gets it wrong. But the Holy Spirit always works through free individuals. We try to listen to one another, we try to think, we try to discern what the church needs and to come to some consensus. The Holy Spirit only works through humans and through natural means generally. I’ve received no special inspiration.
GEORGE NEGUS: It’s interesting though you said sometimes the Holy Spirit can get it wrong?
CARDINAL GEORGE PELL: Yes, well there have been bad popes in history.”
For those who require I further substantiate my ‘facts’ about Pell questioning the credentials of the Holy Spirit …the video of the interview is here

…with the relevant questions and answers by Negus and Pell at the 8 minute mark of the video.
For those who still can’t accept the ‘fact’ that the interview took place, and what they’re seeing really happened….

And Homer, why do you keep protecting this liar Leigh Cartwright at Christ Church Gladesville…..given your huffing and puffing about 1 cor 5….
Again, Leigh’s a big boy, he can do what he wants with his life (as long as he’s not hurting others or himself) …but clearly his role as a youth volunteer at Christ Church conflicts with his role in his band Kerbstomper. That’s just bleedin’ obvious.
Oh, hang on, didn’t Leigh say this earlier in the thread?
You’re shocked because I chose to contribute drumbeats to an eight-person band that would barely need a parental advisory sticker on the CD?
Then why did Leigh say here http://www.horror.com/forum/showthread.php?s=e5cd4edb2dbb0c3878300c65086a665b&postid=51953
Kerbstomper (my own band, yes I’m conceited).
http://www.mp3.com.au/kerbstomper if anyone’s interested.
Again, Kerbstomper’s work…for anyone who wants to sample the work of one of Christ Church Gladesville’s volunteers.
http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=15755
Kerbstomper released the debut album “Death Cures Humanity” on September 1, 2004. It features 40 short blasts of misanthropic industrial/splatter/grind/death metal/noise with lots of samples. The track listing is as follows:
01 - Introducing Humanity / 02 - Brutal Subjugation / 03 - Decapitated Family Portrait / 04 - Introductory Mutilation / 05 - Altar Boy Sodomisation / 06 - Methodical Maternity Ward Slaughter / 07 - Systematic Molestation / 08 - Misanthropic Chainsaw Mutilator / 09 - Sonic Defecation / 10 - Subserviantly Incapacitated / 11 - Meatgrinder Massacre / 12 - Meathooks For Breakfast / 13 - Nihilistic Genocide / 14 - Eternally Packraped / 15 - Cataclysmic Atrocities / 16 - Spontaneous Global Combustion / 17 - Skinned, Slaughtered And Shredded / 18 - Dismembered And Desecrated / 19 - Sadistically Tortured / 20 - Excruciating Facial Amputation / 21 - Skullcrushing Disfigurement / 22 - Incestuous Anthropophagy / 23 - Excessive Wrist Lacerations / 24 - Relentlessly Terrorised / 25 - Posthumous Debauchery / 26 - Orphanage Annihilation / 27 - Repeatedly Butchered / 28 - Total Obliteration / 29 - Oppressed Into Submission / 30 - Disturbing Suffering / 31 - Macabre Depravity / 32 - Perverted Morticians / 33 - Exhumed Cadaver / 34 - Apocalyptic Devastation / 35 - Impaled And Devoured / 36 - Viciously Bludgeoned / 37 - Savagely Disemboweled / 38 - Maimed And Mangled / 39 - Surgically Beltsanded / 40 - Screaming And Bleeding In Kindergarten
Homer, if Leigh is not a friend of yours, and is clearly involved in activities that run counter to the message and youth ministry of Christ Church Gladesville (or maybe I’m wrong in assuming that it’s not a part of the ministry of the Anglican Church in Gladesville, looks like I’ll have to double check with Phil Wheeler - why are all pastors called Phil?) then why aren’t you taking a strident stand against Cartwright’s involvement in the church?
The obvious answer is that you’re a hypocrite, but one would hope there is something more substantive, like a biblical position behind your bizarre support of him being involved in church youth work in YOUR church.
