Family First uncut
It appears that after washing around on the blogosphere for a couple of days, including a mention by frequent commenter Lance (I would link the thread, but can’t figure out what post it was on), the advertiser has caught on to the email to Family First supporters worrying that homosexual behaviour would be “normalised” as a result of proposed South Australian same sex legislation:
In an email to party supporters about the proposed same-sex legislation, Family First MLC Andrew Evans asked them all to “pray for a miracle” in relation to the Bill.
The email also named all MPs and their stance on increasing rights for same-sex couples.
“What is at stake is the full normalisation of homosexual behaviour in our community, affecting our sons, our daughters and our grandchildren,” Mr Evans says in the email.
Also interesting is this post at QueerPenguin on the issue which actually includes a response from Andrew Evans to a blogger email about the comments.

We all need to fast, pray, and if necessary even take up arms to stop this. I mean, if homosexuality was normalized when I was a kid I might have begun to be sexually attracted to men!!!
The fear that your kids might get recruited is quite ridiculous is it not?

Interesting dilema here.
On one hand, the though of same sex marriages might make us feel a bit squeemish, but on the other, we are called to stand up for the rights of the oppressed. Who are we to say that a homosexual couple shouldn’t have the right to have their relationship recognized so they have the same rights as a heterosexual couple. Voting against it could mean further oppression.
It’s a hard one, but only becasue of our prejudice.
And as for the argument that a homosexual marriage will threaten the santity of heterosexual marriage, I must say that my marriage would be in more danger from another hetero than it would ever be from a homo.

I have no problem with homosexual marriage, legal rights, etc. but as a matter of protocol, I have a few questions.
-Does one partner take the same name as the other?
-Are they referred to as Mrs and Mrs?
-Is there use of the terms ‘husband’ and ‘wife’, or do they go for spouse or ‘life-partner’?
With regard to the post, I don’t think Andrew-Evans really gave any actual answers in his response.
What do people here think about the British response? ie. Fully recognising the legal rights of homosexual couples including a civil ceremony, but not calling it marriage.

Well, you can read it in the newspaper next week, or you can read about it first at Signposts.

Sourced fresh from Lance because he is a subscriber to the supporters’ email… Hmmm.

Well I’m impressed that I’m considered a ’supporter’ by Family First, after emailing Andrew Evans to ask him about unsubstantiated allegations of him covering up sexual abuse, (falsely) claimed to have been committed by one of his sons.
If that’s all that’s needed to be a ’supporter’ of Family First’…let the widespread ’support’ of Family First begin…
Mind you, now that I’ve appeared on the Family First emailing list…..I’m curious to see what other tidbits they feed out to their ’supporters’.
Lance.

As I emailed American Family Radio’s News Director once, to tell them what a bunch of plonkers they are with their constant gay-bashing….I also now get the American Family Association’s ’supporter’ emails all the time…(you know the AFA, they were the Disney boycott guys).
The AFA has left the gays alone for a little while..to go after their other hobby horse, boycotting retail outlets that take Christ out of Christmas in their advertising and store displays… (Do your ‘holiday’ shopping at Target….etc).
For years and years and years and years, Christians have complained that Christmas has been too commercialised, and that Christmas has been hijacked by the business world….blah….blah….blah….blah..blah.
Well, here are instances where shops ARE bailing out of ‘Christmas’ specific promotions…and they’re getting boycotted by Christians!!!
Of course, the AFA wouldn’t be boycotting retailers, so as to boost sales of their own merchandise…..would they …..would they?
Let’s go shopping…

“For Mike Haley’s dad, being a jock was the definition of masculinity. And Mike’s failure to meet his father’s expectations-and the resulting criticism- was the first step toward same-sex attraction. Mike shares from his heart about his struggle with homosexuality-and the love of God that ultimately set him free.”
For Lance White’s dad, selling chooks in a chook shop in Geelong was the definition of masculinity. And Lance’s failure to meet his father’s expectations-and the resulting criticism-was the first step towards the radio newsreading lifestyle.
Lance shares from his heart about his struggle with dickheads in the church who take one life story and try and make it ridiculously apply in all situations with all people-and the love of God that ultimately set him from the expectations of knuckle-draggers like George.

Emblazoned - you obviously want to talk about it, since you posted that.

Conservative morals. That’s pretty much it.
December 5th, 2006 at 3:16 pm
Can you explain a bit more? As in:
1. what do you mean by ‘conservative morals’?
2. why is a party having ‘conservative morals’ attractive?
December 6th, 2006 at 3:29 pm
the nazi party had conservative morals as well - would you vote for them? (PS I konw the answer - it;s a rhetorical question)
December 6th, 2006 at 4:29 pm
Yes Greg, but we all know they weren’t “real” conservatives. ;P
