Church rudeness
This article highlights some stories of rudeness in churches in response to a request by the UK newsletter Church Times:
A wheelchair user was advised to go home instead of attending a service, a vicar was told by a church warden that new families attending a service “weren’t really our type”, and a visiting vicar told bereaved relatives he had drawn the short straw in being asked to conduct a funeral.
At a choral Evensong in one of the royal peculiar chapels — churches such as Westminster Abbey which are under the direct authority of the Queen — a disabled woman was manhandled by a sidesman because she could not get up for the national anthem.
My family almost left the church that I grew up in the first time they attended when a fellow congregation member, frustrated by my mother’s attempts to control fidgety twins told her to quiet those children down or leave. Thankfully someone else intervened and told mum not to pay any attention to such rudeness. Whilst overseas, I spent 3 months attending a church every Sunday and nobody spoke to me once (even at the door). What are your stories?

i remember taking all my friends (we were 16 at the time) to a open air “christian rock concert” at a huge public space in our city. None of my friends were christians…so it was a bit of a coup that they agreed to come. Anyway…we got up to dance, only to be told by one of the ‘ushers’ that if we wanted to dance we should go to a nightclub where there are more people “like us”….nice! Suffice to say, none of my friends are christians today!

As an Usher in my church, I can only say, GOD HELP THE PEOPLE THAT WAS RUDE IN HIS HOUSE! Never let anyone, regardless of their role in the church STEAL YOUR JOY. NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO CAUSE YOU TO SIT ON YOUR PRAISE! Remember, the devil is the first to come to church and the last to leave!
Come to FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF DEER PARK, 191 WASHINGTON AVE. DEER PARK, NY 11729! Our motto is LET GO AND LET GOD! You can shout if you feel like it, take off your shoes and dance, dance, dance! We always come to have church and hear a Word from God! We always say, we will not leave until God Blesses Us! I invite you to come.
