Hi all!
We are currently upgrading signposts to the new version of our blogging platform - wordpress 2. It may also be a time where we play around with a new theme just for fun!
So, please be patient as we change things and if you experience any problems please comment in this thread and will see if we can rectify the issues quickly.

We will be implementing the “recent comments” plugin in short order - we miss it too.

As a converted conservative, if there was a picture of George W. Bush or John Howard standing in front of a flag, or a picture of Chinese authorities dealing appropriately with protestors in Tiananmen Square, then that would soften the impact of change.
But this is all requiring me to think differently and act differently.
Now I fully understand why Homer - though he no longer has a right to exist in our society, because his differences are not to be tolerated - is unable to cope with change of any kind.

Why the square retro look? Is Phil showing us his age, or is he really just “Mr Hip Fashion Man” in disguise?

Interesting in that he also compares it scientology (another cult of cash).
“All in all, it seemed to me that people weren’t there for the teachings of Christ, out of a fear of death or sickness, or to find a partner or friends. They were there for the experience. They were there for a feeling of community - to be part of a group of people being warm and positive – a legitimate craving in our increasing insular lives. It is just a pity they’re asked to pay so much for it”.
Sums it up.
Why is it that people over 35 are never on stage? Old-timers are retired to become ‘coaches’ of the young people on stage when they are seen as being past their used by date. Its sort of like “Logans Run” in these Churches - in an effort to keep everything ‘fresh and trendy’ people overs a certain age are exploded and told they go on “to a better life” - some where else.
I attended a Catholic mass last night as I felt that I needed to go Church and noone else in my area puts on Church on Sun pm. Except for Churchlands which also has a cultish ‘Apostolic Leadership’ mindset…after knowing many friends that left that years ago - and hearing some pretty scary conference ads on the radio…I could not go there.
Luke, I have to say the Catholic mass was refeshing experience. Quite ‘high’ in formality - but I did not feel that I was being targeted for my wallet. And noone was dressed like they were going to a nightclub!

“A SENIOR NSW public servant claims Hillsong Church’s benevolent arm is trying to intimidate him, following his allegations that the organisation is misusing public funds aimed at Aboriginal development. Tony Williams, business development manager for the Department of State and Regional Development, said Hillsong Emerge chief executive Leigh Coleman had tried to have the responsible minister silence him. Mr Williams was recalled from leave on Monday to answer questions from his superiors about Mr Coleman’s demand that he publicly recant on comments he made about Hillsong Emerge. As reported by The Australian, Mr Williams had claimed that Hillsong Emerge, which received almost $2million in federal grants in 2004-05 for Indigenous business development, was spending the funds mainly for its own use.”

It sounds as though HS’s tactics of initidating people also mirror that of Scientology. Not just their fund raising and “tax-minimisation” activities.
Do a study on how scientology became a Church and you will see some interesting parrellels.

Lance - I have to agree with Harry Boys post. It is weird and there are scriptural references where St Paul admonished Christians for doing the same weirds stuff 1 Cor 14.
He states: “but when you pray, Go into your secret place, your secret room, and there when you pray in silent, the One who hears all secrets will reward you”
Though, I don’t want to be rude but there is one thing along these lines that is similar that happens at his own Church.
Its the boasting about good works, testimonies from ‘faithful tithers’ and how generous we all are…the Bible makes a similar admonishment to people to be discreet in their giving “to not let the right hand know what the left hand is doing”.
I guess not church has it all together.

one has to wonder how signposts comment system becomes a place for communication over a variety of subjects…
how a post about “hey we’ve installed WP2″ becomes a discussion on hillsong i have no idea…

Lance:
“They were teachers, married to each other, and because of God, they had achieved tremendous successes in the educational fields, earning along the way awards and scholarships. The woman claimed she had donated $65,000 to the church over the years, and now her God had returned the flavor many times”…
Churches of the same DNA as others. They recieve their reward in full.

The writing comes out a lot bigger on my browser (as do the spaces) so I can’t see as much on the screen and have to do more scrolling down. Therefore I much prefer the previous layout.
Funny how most threads here become a critique of megachurches!

Eric, do you use ie or firefox? ont problem with ie is that it NEVER presents text sizes properly, you can change the setting for the site in ie by going view/text size…

Let me know how the transisiotn goes!
I’ve been too scared to even attempt the transition to WP 2.0 - setting up the first one was a big enough pain in the bum!
January 31st, 2006 at 12:37 pm
There are a number of bugs still to work out with the new template and unfortunately we only have our (limited) spare time to do this, so things happen when we get around to them.
The page behaves differently in Firefox and IE - if you are looking at this in IE you won’t see our heading, but you will if you are looking at it in Firefox. We (including our internet guru guy) haven’t been able to figure that one out yet.
Everything is a little bigger which we are still testing, but it is hard to make something which works and lookts good on different resolutions. Anyway, will fix things as we get to them. PLease continue to leave your specific complaints (or random Hillsong-related news) in the comments of this thread.

All my posts are coming out with a brown stain.
Is it because I’m putting neo-conservative and clean posts in the wash?

Mark Driscoll - “Male Lesbian”.
I’ve heard Mars Hill fans drop Mark Driscoll’s name over the years…but hadn’t taken a lot of notice of Mars Hill until this current public exchange between Driscoll and Brian McLaren.
here
I had no idea that Driscoll was such a dickhead.
Geez….and I thought the ‘Adam and Steve’ joke was lame…..

Apparently there are various efforts around the net…to edit and remove one of Mark Driscoll’s comments about Doug Pagitt.
So…..just to make sure it stays on the record….Driscoll’s statement, later removed, at Christianity Today…was ..
““Although I am unsure exactly what Doug meant by this last statement for safety’s sake I would strongly recommend that all farmers, particularly those surrounding Minneapolis, lock up their sheep at night effective immediately.” “
