Hello everyone,
Sorry to poke my nose in here but I am a relatively major wikipedia contributor. I not only created the original Bobbie Houston article, but was also responsible for expanding the original Hillsong article to include, among many other things, controversies such as Pat Mesiti’s adultery, Frank Houston’s child abusing and, of course, Geoff Bullock’s leaving.
I am not a pentecostal, I am a former Sydney Anglican. I visited Hills CLC in 1992 six times to see what it was like and each time I was there Geoff was leading the worship.
In 1993 I went to the inaugural Bill Hybels conference and sat about 4 rows behind the Hills CLC gaggle. I found it amusing to have Geoff Bullock and Robert Smith (the Sydney Anglican songwriter) sitting only metres away from one another.
Anyway, I wrote a rather large article on Wikipedia entitled “Criticisms of Pentecostal and Charismatic belief” that has subsequently been removed because it was deemed to “biased” - this despite the fact that I tried very hard to make it as neutral as possible.
Anyway, I managed to copy and paste the best version possible at my blog. I hope you enjoy it as it touches on many things you guys have discussed here:

“I found it amusing to have Geoff Bullock and Robert Smith (the Sydney Anglican songwriter) sitting only metres away from one another.”
Imo, two of the best Aussie hymnists you’ll ever see sitting near each other. And at my church its not uncommon for both to be sung on one Sunday.

I finished writing my first hymn a few months ago:

Hi Steve,
As you are aware the following statement was made in the SMH article entitled ‘The Lord’s Profit’s (2003):
“He earns some of his money, he says, as a property developer, “being a silent partner with a couple of guys from the church in building developments…” in the SMH article entitled ‘”The Lord’s Profit’s” (Source: http://www.smh.com.au/cgi-bin/common/popupPrintArticle.pl?path=/articles/2003/01/28/1043804401241.html )
My original request to Hillsong through the appropriate channels (August 2005) for clarification surrounding the discrepancy between this and Brian’s later denials resulted in a delivery receipt from Hillsong – but no reply.
Conversely, the author of the SMH article took the time and courtesy to promptly respond to my enquiry.
He confirmed that this was an ‘on the records statement’ and that he has the tapes and transcripts for these statements. (I have sent a copy of this response to Dan who may at her discretion verify that she has sighted this response).
Before I go to the expense and effort to verify the ‘original’ tapes and transcripts could you please obtain from George or Peter an official Hillsong response that explicitly confirms that Brian NEVER made the above mentioned ‘on the record’ statement for the said article.
The Hillsong response can either be in electronic email version or on Hillsong letterhead. You have my email address under separate cover.
Warm regards,
Richard

A touch aside from HS - but connected - did anyone realise that last Sunday was the 100th anniversary of the Asuza St revival which sparked the whole Pentecostal movement to which we owe the existence of HS!
April 11th, 2006 at 10:53 am
Wow 100 years since the Holy Spirit came to earth…
Oh! You mean HS as in HILLSONG. Duh! Silly me.
April 11th, 2006 at 11:07 am
In some churches, you could be forgiven for thinking the Holy Spirit only came to earth 100 years ago!
April 11th, 2006 at 11:31 am
Well I’m a Presbyterian and we all believe that the Holy Spirit came to earth 500 years ago.
April 11th, 2006 at 11:56 am
I’m Anglican and we’re not sure about this whole Holy Spirit thing at all!
April 11th, 2006 at 12:24 pm
Ha! A binitarian!

Sydney Anglicans believe in the trinity:
God the Father
God the Son
God the Holy Bible
(which of course is terribly wrong and misrepresents their position - but I did find it funny when I first heard it)
April 11th, 2006 at 12:41 pm
Errr…how does it mis-represent their PRACTICAL position, OSO? I know they’d argue terribly that it wasn’t their doctrine or their belief, but it sure as hell sums up what they act out.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:42 pm
PS - I’m Catholic; we just believe in whatever pagan, Satanistic freemasonry the Pope tells us to
April 11th, 2006 at 12:47 pm
Oh I get it now… I didn’t see the “God the Holy Bible” part in #13.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:52 pm
Oh… I believe in Monty Python and the “Life of Brian”.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:53 pm
Sola Scriptura my friend, which holds that the Bible is solely God’s way of guiding his people.
How it links to the Spirit is that the writers of the Bible were inspired by the Holy Spirit to do so. Therefore, when you read the Bible, or hear it taught, or discuss it in a group, the Holy Spirit works amongst those present. The Spirit will continue to guide a person’s life in how they shoud live through that person’s knowledge of and exposure to the Bible. The basic idea here is 2 Timothy 3.16-17 - scripture thoroughly equips the believers for every good work.
This, at least, is the Reformed idea I am talking about here - a position held by Presbyterians and Reformed Baptists. Sydney Anglicans aren’t as part of Reformed Evangelicalism as I thought they were though.

Sorry for italicising everything in #18. I obviously stuffed up the html tag.
“Life of Brian” - essential viewing for Christians who take themselves too seriously.
April 11th, 2006 at 12:57 pm
Geoff you’re just a very naughty boy!
April 11th, 2006 at 1:04 pm
Actually, I used to believe that Liberace was the “Tooth Fairy” until someone politely pointed out to me that he was just another “Toothy Fairy”
April 11th, 2006 at 1:07 pm
Not this sola scriptura rubbish again.
April 11th, 2006 at 1:09 pm
Someone told me once that “Queen” was the world’s most appropriately named rock band.
April 11th, 2006 at 1:32 pm
Oh very droll
April 11th, 2006 at 1:36 pm
Does that make Michaela Jckson the performer with the most appropriate album title….”Bad”….?
April 11th, 2006 at 1:56 pm
No it makes him “off the wall”
April 11th, 2006 at 1:58 pm
I have a CD from a muso friend of mine. It’s title is “Nothing to do with cars or traffic lights”.
And it was true - the album had absolutely nothing to do with either cars or traffic lights.
April 11th, 2006 at 2:15 pm
‘Nothing to do with cars or traffic lights’ - to be found where all good elevators are going up and down…..
April 11th, 2006 at 2:38 pm
Not this sola scriptura rubbish again.
I take you’ve been through this sort of discussion before?
April 11th, 2006 at 2:39 pm
