Cheers for the 12th, signposters

Two things:
1. I have to disagree about the buckets…they do have holes. The are like flower pots. I believe 5cent peices would fall out.
2. I would love to make the Newport arms but on the 12th two of my kids will be kicking the crap out of some other kids at the State Tae kwon do comp at Homebush.
Maybe we could smuggle some beers in there and have entertainment as well.
The following weekend is much better fo me….let’s make it a weekly meeting…..hmmmmm “church?”

Church at the arms is what I’m talking about!

Hello Tanya. You are an incredibly brave lady (and VERY wise to open a hotmail account to handle the email you are bound to get). I only heard about your book earlier this week, and I am looking forward to reading it.
It may not make any difference to those who can’t see the wood for the trees, but it will help those who are sitting in churches like Hills and starting to feel those first stirrings that something isn’t right … or on the road to burn out.
I think it will also have an impact on those who have left these churches. As I’ve discovered this week, there is a certain sense of relief that comes from knowing you aren’t alone.
Love, Deb

Neil, re your post # 4381
“I took the time to suggest a future guest for Denton’s show…..Geoff”
I just saw that over on the Suggest a Guest board for the show, and your intention was good, but someone felt it necessary to comment in a fairly libelous way about why Geoff left Hills. The rumour mill is obviously very much alive, unfortunately.

At the moment it is about half way down this page, but if you do a search by topic for Geoff Bullock, you’ll see what I mean.
As I read this lady’s comment, I have to admit my heart went out to Geoff and his family. I imagine he’s just minding his own business, trying to share a little bit of God’s grace and love to those who read His work and listen to his songs, and basically just get on with his life. Then suddenly his name gets dumped on again. It amazes me that anyone, other than Geoff himself, would feel the right to make such a public statement as though fact.

I’m not sure about that one Greg but I have heard rumours of a special clan in the College who work themselves into a frenzy and start slashing themselves with credit cards.
This is getting stranger.
Hey Tanya!
As someone on the forefront in smaller way but doing the same thing, dealing with the public I know how much encouragement helps!
We’re behind you totally and I all the best in the challenges ahead!

****DAN / PHIL*****
OK so we have Smithus, Reve, Emblazoned, Emanresu & Daisy, five Signposters & whoever they bring so far for lunch on the 12th, Greg is saying he would make it for future events - cool. Sorry the Rev won’t make it - i’ve met him & it would & have been fun.
If all are agreed - moderators (i know it’s a hassle) could you please send a general purpose email listing the emails of all those attending so far (& those still to attend) & we will most likely look for Emby & Eman on the day.
Everybody can swap mobiles on emails if they like.
Come on, who else can come?
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:02 am
Is this an open invitation?
August 3rd, 2007 at 10:07 am
For those who don’t drive / don’t have cars / live south of the bridge & are concerned about accepting for lunch because they think it’s too far:
Smithus has three spots currently avail for Signposters who otherwise might not be able to attend, she will be coming from the Western suburbs & could possibly pick people up on the way through.
Reply here if that’s you: first in best dressed & all that.

# 4449 Hi David,
Ideally it’s for Signposters & friends &/or anyone who identifies as a spiritual refugee. Pretty sure that would cover most people who post here in one way or another.
Just a gathering of like minds over a meal & a bottle.
;o)

I’m a refugee from evangelicalism, not from Hillsong per se. Does that mean I qualify?
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:09 pm
Absolutely.
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:14 pm
How far west is Smithus coming from?
August 3rd, 2007 at 12:47 pm
You’re more than welcome David.
A poem I wrote last year for the spiritual refuge: (obvioulsy from my perspective)
Our great city is sacked
The facades all cracked.
Oh how the mighty have fallen!
Once great but now appalling!
I am a vagabond and a refugee
I flee the fires and depart the city
I join the wanderers in their ongoing roaming
We wander without aqueduct of water foaming
We drink from the wild ponds and streams
We have no leader no goal, only dreams.
We don’t go to Rome, our trust it has not earnt
Even if Byzantium stood, its ways would we have learnt?
(Although we lament its passing
a land of monks and devouts fasting)
We watch others cluster at a town that is new,
Strict learning and context is their view.
But we are stunned at what they cannot see
And depart for fear of withering spirituality.
We have searched for a land to call home,
Yet terrified of making a new Rome.
As was that city that now burns and burns.
Longing for where our hearts will turn.

I’ll contact Smithus & get her to come online to answer that - shouldn’t be too long.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:03 pm
I was wishing you all well, I will not be attending as I like interstate. So Phil and Dan please do not release me email.
Thanks Daisy
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:03 pm
Loved the poem Emblazoned.. especially the last verse… really spoke to me.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:04 pm
I was wishing fellow signposters well, I live interstate so will not be attending. Phil and Dan please do not release my email address.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:05 pm
Thanks mate
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:11 pm
My assumption Daisy, i should have clarified. Sorry we’ll miss you.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:18 pm
No worries Reve, I will be thinking of you all on the 12th. If someone could drink a nice glass of white for me, I would appreciate it.
Assumptions are the stuff of blogshere, I should have been clearer. Sorry.
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:59 pm
Wakey, Smithus has said if anyone from the western suburbs needs a lift that all they have to do is make it to Parramatta or Westmead & she could pick them up from there.
She will elaborate further here once she finishes work tonight.
August 3rd, 2007 at 3:30 pm
I’ll be there.
August 3rd, 2007 at 3:49 pm
Woo Hoo! Will ne nice to see you again, Singer! See if you can’t get Geoff to come along too!
So far we got
Emblazoned
Emanresu
Reve
Smithus
Singer
& Dave Castor?
Is there anyone else? Maybe you’ve been away from Lunch for awhile & want to come back. Maybe you just want to make a statement & reconnect with Lunch…..
I want every eye closed & every head bowed……there’s still plenty of room down the front of the auditorium………
I see your hand!
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:23 pm
I’m so excited I’ve already laid my outfit out on the bed to get ready.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:35 pm
Reve,
Already on the case. Geoff’s just emailed and says he will do his best to get there.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:41 pm
What a shame I won’t be able to go to the lunch, would be neat to meet some of these thinkers..If someone could drink a bottle of white wine for me would be good.
Rev, I see you’re getting the hang of those altar calls LOL. Wonder if there’ll be any spies there. Wouldn’t it be funny if a thousand disgruntled hsongers/signpost lurkers turned up. Could be the start of a brand new movement, what would you call it? Just think, a new beach orientated church based on drinking and eating, sounds like John 21 ‘cept it would be breakfast. Who would be the pastor?…lance?
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:51 pm
LOL… ifiknewthen… that would be so awesome.
August 3rd, 2007 at 4:53 pm
Who would be the pastor?…lance?
Nah!
We’d have to take a big offering just to afford the Lear Jet to fly him in from WA…and then he’d have to be back in time to read the evening news on the radio.
But I love the concept:)
