Bec, I wrote at some (appalling) length about the opportunities I have had to pastor through an Australian Idol fan forum - in the "virtual church" thread. I have been given my "own" emoticon called :purps:

(I will now attempt to upload an image. This is a very dangerous exercise being conducted by experts under controlled conditions. Do not attempt to do this at home.)

The emo has a swinging censer and is mouthing prayers (but it doesn't work in my copy of it).

I've since seen that Guardian article on the girl who died (Anna Svidensky) and have seen her blog (it's on myspace). She identifies Jesus as her 'hero', and makes the point that you can't rely on anyone else. :) Her myspace address is "sceneslut".

The more I dig around, the more I realise that cyberspace is no different to any other 'space' - kids in cyberspace go to church, and there's a lack of connection between the stuff they talk about in church, and the stuff they talk about in other 'spaces'. It's made me think about cyber-discipleship (has anyone ever used that term? Does it make sense to anyone but me?!)...like, on Signposts, you do see how people can feel a really strong connection even though they've never met. Does Cyberspace open up opportunities for people who would otherwise not be able to connect, to connect? Does it create new opportunities for relationship-building within the scattered people of God? Is the church make enough of these opportunities?

Sorry...I've kinda hijacked the thread...

Did anyone see this article in the Age?

http://www.theage.com.au/news/web/tassie-gals-web-hit/2006/06/08/1149359874420.html

I checked out her vids (well, I went over to the site, very quickly stopped watching the vids!) and her blog, and was intrigued in the discussions on her videos to see that she's just started going to church and calls herself a Christian. I'm very open-minded, but I'd say this is one girl destined for serious confusion (if you check out her videos you'll see what I mean). Anyway...it got me thinking that, as with every other aspect of our lives, cyberspace has made faith lots more public...

dammit. no nosering. i knew i didn't fit in for a reason.

i'm not into hip church, but...

the reasons i love my mac are because i'm computer illiterate, and i use a lot of multimedia stuff. with a mac i can drag and shift music, movies and photos into keynote (which is the mac version of powerpoint) without having to open another program, check file versions, formats, etc.

it comes with a free movie program - imovie - that saves into .mov format, which works in keynote, so i can just seamlessly do everything... i can add music from my itunes library into movies without having to convert anything. it just works, without me having to know how it works.

(it's pretty, i like that. i spend hours in front of my computer, it may as well be aesthetically pleasing)

i don't know anything about computers, it lets me do what i want to do without having to know anything.

Reasons to buy a Mac? Very few viruses attack Mac operating systems. Most attack windows. Mac's are beautiful.

Anyone else?

Because if you have a mac in the hip church scene, all you need to do is add a goatee (for a guy) or nosering (for a guy or girl) and a "make poverty history" armband and you are officially in the inner sanctum.

I was about to buy a PC notebook. What would be the best reasons to buy a mac instead?

these days, you can get most software compatible for either PC's or Macs. So, one of the major attractions is the beauty of the Mac designs :p . But is that a good reason to buy? I'd probably buy second-hand so as not to pay the new ocmputer premium.
