I find it extremely difficult to trust pastors etc due to previous experiences. But I don’t think I have the liberty of withdrawing from church fellowship and making some sort of contribution an the basis that I might get hurt. Where would we be if Jesus had taken a different option because he didn’t like the church (jewish religious) leadership. Further what message am I sending my kids - don’t get involved cause you might get hurt?

I’m quite a sensitive soul, have been hurt squillions of times, am a bit of a woos actually, but I don’t believe God wants me to bail out - He might want me to move occasionally, but not bail. He won’t stop me, He doesn’t want me or anyone else to be “hurt” by church leadership or anyone else, or me to hurt anyone. But if you live and breathe in this world I don’t see much of an option actually - otherwise you’re not really living. To honour Christ in this world is to invite suffering of some sort.

I personally baulk at the following cause I know Jesus made other pronouncements about foxholes and nests, suffering and the like all of which are true but:

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

In the darkness this is still true also - there are many people who have tested Jesus in this in terrible places and found Him to be true to His word. But I also agree there are times when time out is required to sort through what’s happening and how to go forward again with God. We all need that from time to time

    Cheers
