Hillsong conference 2006
Sorry to be slow on the uptake on this, but Hillsong 2006 is up and running. Anyone who wants to post reviews, discussion or articles about the 2006 conference, do it in this thread (just so we can try to keep things together a bit).
Ta muchly.

Great its not taught at your Church.
I know life has been made very difficult for those who have asked questions of ledaership at other COC Churches.
At present I can say no more.
July 25th, 2006 at 10:03 am
Lionfish, can you clarify what you mean when you refer to COC churches?
July 25th, 2006 at 11:59 am
Re 209 That was a brilliant compilation of info by bene diction. The whole saga and principle reminds me of the Warnke issue a few years back.

hmmm… except that the original question(s) remain unanswered. Interesting that (like so many of his ilk - whatever an ‘ilk’ is!?) financial/accounting practices come into question again.
I haven’t come across Speronews before… looks kind of interesting. Have to check it out more later. I’m assuming (Neil & Lance - you competitive dogs!) that it’s reputable/reliable
(Hah - I just sent a letter to the editor of the West Aus; and I’m asking questions about reliability & reputation! I make myself laugh…)

Do you mean Church of Christ or Christian Outreach Centre? I’ve never heard of a Church of Christ church teaching tithing.
July 25th, 2006 at 2:08 pm
Which is what I think Rev was objecting to. From what I know he has never preached in a Christian Outreach Centre. To be fair though, Allan Meyer is a Church of Christ Minister and Careforce is affiliated with CofC in Vic Tas. However, as has been noted, its style and associations are much closer to AOG than to many traditional CofCs

The first time I ever saw Allan Meyer speak it was all about money. Sort of along the lines of “Give up reading your glossy magazines each week and put that money in the offering”. He gave lots of examples of the extravagant things that we waste our money on, that could really go to God. At the time, I was a student living on youth allowance and my budget barely included food, so giving up all my luxuries wouldn’t have increased my offering by a dollar.
I don’t think he was offering to stop playing golf though….
Careforce does the separate tithes and offerings thing too. They put up a big multimedia presentation that says the offering pays the electricity bills, etc, and the tithe is used to put people into mission- I guess pay their employees.

yes I thought you were talking about the Churches of Christ, as Allen Myer is a chuch of Christ pastor. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Allan Meyer.

My point was that I thought by writing COC he was talking about Churches of Christ, as we call ourselves that sometimes, and since you brought up Allan Meyer, who is a Church of Christ pastor. This is not the teaching of the Churches of Christ, though they would most likely say that this teaching is to be determined by the local church. Phil or Dan can correct me.
If you are pointing out that I spelled both his first and last name incorrectly, thank you.

“If you are pointing out that I spelled both his first and last name incorrectly, thank you.”
No, I just found a video of Meyer on the web…and posted it…so people would know who the hell it was being talked about.

CofC would have issues like tithing decided by the local congregation. So you would get a wide range of options. A lot of CofC, like other “heritage” christian denominations talk about money once every three years at their planned giving program. I am sure that rev will do that series at the CAVE soon.

I decided to instead start a building program, I figure with the twenty of us we should be able to build a baptismal in about fifteen years

[Emerges from hidey hole in the reff, looks out streches, yawns - and then realises that everybody is running around in blind panic because of comment # 211].
Okay, I did not mean “Church of Christ”. I meant the other denomination (or pockets thereof) that when one of their own starts investigating tithing and ask questions - the Leadership directs them to Allan Meyer “who has a wonderful teaching on tithing” because they can’t defend it themselves.
Allan Meyer teaches his rubbish at COC, AOG and just recently at Hillsong (Stewardship) series. They promote it as Gospel. It’s just swallow / swallow teaching …
Anyone out there want to seriously defend the tithing doctrine?

Hey rev - start going to dumpster sites at places where offices are being remodeled - you may find enough wire and trim to make it an electrically lighted baptismal - with some luck - you may find metal roofing that has been discarded and you can put a roof over it. Paint it all Gold and make it guady with red velvet curtains and with but one camera - you could start a new Christian TBN station - think big.
Freinds, for your monthly donation of $100 you can recieve rev’s personal autographed jewelry case, made of 100 % genuine glass - and handpainted with the “baptismal networks” very own logo ( soon to be developed).
July 26th, 2006 at 8:14 am
and it comes with a tape recording of my favorite message, “Jesus wants you to be comfortable”, if you act now you can also get the genuine simulated leather bible holder, with our personal logo
S for salvation
and then two vertical stripes that represent God’s calling us
and our responding to Him

highlighters and pens! to go in the special pocket on the front of the bible holder!
July 27th, 2006 at 12:17 pm
Doesn’t it already come pre-highlighted with the special teachings ‘The’ wants us to learn already marked? Or is the highlighter for sniffing to induce a bit more ‘Holy Spirit’ into your life?
July 28th, 2006 at 12:18 pm
nah, you have to highlight it so that the person sitting next to you can see how much of it you’ve read before!!
July 30th, 2006 at 7:32 pm
Hey, have you noticed that Word books sells “Bible Highlighters”. (You know this because this phrase is printed on the side of the highlighter). I enquired of the staff whether normal highlighters might do the same job. I was told they are “extra thin” for small print bibles.
I just can’t fathom the market for “Christian junk”. My all time favourite absurdity was an egg separater with “Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ” printed on the side.
Perhaps the Rev can invent some even more extraordinary Christian junk for his building program.
July 30th, 2006 at 11:36 pm
Waht about a “St Paul” Hair and nose trimmer set with “its a shame for a man to have long hair” text on the side.
July 31st, 2006 at 9:17 am
I like that. It just might catch on.
