Canberra - churches in third places

Friday, January 19th, 2007

Does anyone know of churches who run congregations in cafes, pubs or restaurants in Canberra? Or a home based church maybe?
Anyone doing some emerging church work in Canberra?
I would love to know as we have someone from our church who has moved to Canberra (who knows why!) and is looking for a Church.

Forge goes regional

Friday, January 19th, 2007

One of the new changed that Forge Vic is implementing this year is running a number of regional gatherings. The plan is to start with four gatherings in 2007 and grow into other areas from there. In 2007 there will be regional gatherings in the Dandenong ranges, Northern suburbs, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland.
The Dandenong Ranges […]

Morbidly Minded

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I have been researching the origins of the Word-Of-Faith movement, which has its origins in the ‘New Thought’ movements (eg. Christian Science) of the 1800’s and is thought to have blended with Pentecostalism in the early 1900’s.
There is some credit given to the movement, in that it is believed to have helped the Church ‘rediscover’ some […]

Revelation and how to crochet

Monday, January 15th, 2007

Today I received the latest edition of Reo, the theological journal of the Churches of Christ Theological College  (the grand institution at which Phil completed his undergraduate study and I managed not to complete a course of undergraduate study).  One article seemed to chime in to some discussions that have happened here from time to […]

From this article about Steve Irwin’s wife and daughter and their madcap US promotional tour:

Earlier, Irwin told reporters she was embarrassed about constant questions about her daughter Bindi’s workload.
“I’ve given Bindi’s schedule a lot of thought,” Irwin said.
Bindi, she pointed out, had been filming all her life — literally. She said her late husband had […]

From Indulgences To Tithes

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Thanks to Sir Harry Boy I have come across a very interesting article by a Catholic that recognises the error of selling Indulgences by the Catholic Church and clearly aligns it with the “selling of blessings” by Evangelicals through tithes .
“Surprisingly, some of the loudest Evangelical critics of the 500 year old indulgences scandal are approaching their […]

2007 anyone?

Monday, January 1st, 2007

Okay this is the predictions thread.  The celebrity death match concept is far too narrow.  So make your predictions for 2007 - local, global, celebrity whatever floats your boat.  Predictions close on 15 January 2007 and any serious predictions that actually come true will be suitably acknowledged during the year.

Defiant, but hanged

Monday, January 1st, 2007

There has been a lot of comment over the last couple of days about the hanging of Saddam Hussein.  Some of it has even penetrated the busyness of the season to resonate a little.  I have been reflecting a little on a photo that was on the age website (which I now cannot find).  It […]
