O I found out who Jephthah was ... quite a tragic figure.

A man who did great things for God but also abused his family...haven't we seen that before.

Judges 11 is the story of Jephthah, an outcast and victim of a type of family abuse, who was called on to defend those very brothers who had mistreated him. Jephthah is gracious enough to do so and having dedicated his work to God produces a great victory (yeah!) and he then goes on to kill his only daughter (boo!)

The biblical author of this story from the past inserts a point about the world of the reader saying it is only the women who have maintianed a tradition of mourning this detail of the story. Interesting note to finnish on.

Wow after the hard slog of the theological theory of the previous few chapters here is a fabulous collection of stories of people of faith who were sure of God's rest and lived hopeful lives even though they were not yet made perfect.

If those middle chapters were the tough meat this must be the special sauce. I love it. Inspiring.

"I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets" who was Jephthah? I might have to find out for homework.
