I hope your weekend is filled with joy even if busy.

Here’s hoping the “fiery AGM” will end up being the furnace of conflict that ultimately produces creatively and positive change.
Does not sound like much fun though, may the Force be with you……

Hi Dan,what about suggesting to the Jones they do something with their blog-perhaps a link to signposts? A fiery AGM,not on your nelly;the way this one is organised, they could even teach the ALP a lesson or 2.

Won’t see you at the AGM… my neice is getting married tomorrow. A blessed escape of sorts for someone like myself who was born with “blessed are the peacemakers” invisibly tatooed to my forehead.

    Anyway… er… enjoy.

the jones’s blog had a good piece on ‘throwing the baby out with the bathwater’
    loved the quote

“we have tended to make our prevailing idea of church into an idol and thereby put it beyond critique”

    That quote is very healthy.

I should explain the reference, keeping up with the Joneses because DCCC is where we were in ministry immediately before coming to Northern, so always fun to check it out.

I don’t quite “get” forking out fifty bucks for the privilege of running for 13.6 kilometers… then, I’m a lazy slob I suppose.

    Racing the train!
There’s a train line in Adelaide which loops around a bit, making it theoretically possible to get off the train, run cross-country, and board it again four stations later, earning the praise of your fellow passengers. I’ve tried once and failed; it might be time for another attempt.

    dan Says:

Actually the really unfit part of the train is the train driver who has to run from the start line down to the train and from the train to the finish line, all decked out in his engineer’s uniform (complete with jaunty hat).

    1. Loved it - great day though didn’t beat any trains.
    2. Well, it was fiery as expected.
    3. By all accounts well (that was when I was supposed to be writing thesis but instead spending too much time procrastinating on YouTube).

Its a great move Nigel, altho she is only the 4th in a 141 year history. The male species of Churches of Christ have a problem with women;all the state conference executive officers are male;there were 2 council/boards appointed at the AGM - all men except 2 women;of the 14 “senior ministers/team leaders” in Victorian congregations, only 1 is a woman;of the 116 congregations with recognised ministers, only 15 or so are women; and it was a woman who was shafted in a way that would have made John Howard proud - secret review, redefine job, sack.
In fact the only agency which reflects both our congregations and gender equity is probably our theological college. It was a great move, but I wouldnt get too excited Nigel, the men will grab it back next time!

Maybe this debate belongs on the “Those damn women” thread but I’ll join in here. Its not the first time that a comments thread has diverted from the topic of the oringinal article homosexual hillsong hermenutics .

Alan, I agree with you that there is a lack of women in leadership in our church. The fact that women can serve in these roles at an inter-State level is better than some churches in our conference where they cant be elders, or ministers.

Reminding us of the stark differences in the numbers of men and women helps bring this problem to our attention. But it is one thing to identify a problem, but another to understand its cause and how it works in our culture. Do you have evidence or a theory that it is “the male species of Churches of Christ” that has a problem and that “the men will grab it back”?

Not sure if I should be offended by your generalisations about men.

Perhaps we should also include the good news: of the four executive officers of the partner departments of conference - two are women.. 50% is not a bad result!

    from the establishment :)
