Perhaps we should also include the good news: of the four executive officers of the partner departments of conference - two are women.. 50% is not a bad result!

from the establishment :)

Maybe this debate belongs on the "Those damn women" thread but I'll join in here. Its not the first time that a comments thread has diverted from the topic of the oringinal article homosexual hillsong hermenutics .

Alan, I agree with you that there is a lack of women in leadership in our church. The fact that women can serve in these roles at an inter-State level is better than some churches in our conference where they cant be elders, or ministers.

Reminding us of the stark differences in the numbers of men and women helps bring this problem to our attention. But it is one thing to identify a problem, but another to understand its cause and how it works in our culture. Do you have evidence or a theory that it is "the male species of Churches of Christ" that has a problem and that "the men will grab it back"?

Not sure if I should be offended by your generalisations about men.

Its a great move Nigel, altho she is only the 4th in a 141 year history. The male species of Churches of Christ have a problem with women;all the state conference executive officers are male;there were 2 council/boards appointed at the AGM - all men except 2 women;of the 14 "senior ministers/team leaders" in Victorian congregations, only 1 is a woman;of the 116 congregations with recognised ministers, only 15 or so are women; and it was a woman who was shafted in a way that would have made John Howard proud - secret review, redefine job, sack.
In fact the only agency which reflects both our congregations and gender equity is probably our theological college. It was a great move, but I wouldnt get too excited Nigel, the men will grab it back next time!

1. Loved it - great day though didn't beat any trains.
2. Well, it was fiery as expected.
3. By all accounts well (that was when I was supposed to be writing thesis but instead spending too much time procrastinating on YouTube).
