At Tangent tonight we talked about the Jesus Creed. The Jesus Creed is a book written by Scott McKnight. When asked by an expert in the law where to begin with spiritual formation. Jesus answers by giving what Scott McKnight calls the Jesus creed. The Jesus creed defines how spiritual formation is done Jesus style.

The faith of a dog-woman

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

At Tangent the other night, we discussed the story of the Syrophoenecian woman as recorded in Mark.
For those that aren’t familiar with the passage, it tells the story of a moment when Jesus was trying to get just a few minutes by himself and was interrupted by a gentile woman nattering on about Jesus curing […]

the launch of our kaleo order

Monday, July 3rd, 2006

I have been reading an interesting book by Jeffrey Jones - traveling together - a guide for disciple-forming congregations. On the first page stands this confronting quote from Rufus Jones:
“We stand in a crisis and we can be bearers of the torch or we can carefully husband a little flame and keep it going […]

This year aunty Dan and uncle Phil have taken on the responsibility for feeding our team of munchkins as they compete against young […]

We asked each member of the group to spend some time reflecting individually and writing down their responses. The only qualification I made was that I […]

To aid our preparation for our stations of the cross at Tangent this year at Northern, Nigel sent me this link to a web site with an interesting take on the stations of the cross.
The stations are illustrated as faces of Jesus – if you hover your mouse over each image it will have a caption telling […]

lectionary

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

emergent-us have an article in their latest email newsletter by Daniel B. Clendenin, PhD where he writes:

“The lectionary (Latin, lectio, to read) is simply a schedule of Bible readings that includes a passage from the Old Testament, the Psalms, an epistle, and then, in pride of place, the Gospels.  Believers who attend a daily mass or […]

missional?

Sunday, February 26th, 2006

At a recent meeting at Northern, we were discussing one of our congregations focus, purpose and mission. A paper had been prepared to orient our discussion and it made the point that we needed to regain a missional focus for this particular congregation. One of our leaders, who is a very wise and experienced former […]
